SAN FRANCISCO, May 10, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Cardpool, a leading gift card exchange marketplace, and Compassion International (Compassion), a Christian child development organization, today announced Compassion's launch of CardFunder®, a new program that enables consumers to donate unspent gift cards to Compassion.

CardFunder highlights the gift card exchange marketplace as a unique philanthropic tool for those with unused gift cards. According to a December 2015 Exchange Survey* from Cardpool parent company, Blackhawk Network, 51 percent of consumers surveyed have unused gift cards.

"Cardpool is committed to providing consumers with great ways to use their gift card funds," said Patrick Ramsey, general manager of Cardpool. "We are proud to assist in Compassion International's mission of assisting children who are living in poverty by offering a new way for consumers to donate unspent gift cards through CardFunder."

As part of the CardFunder program, consumers can give via an online tool at www.Compassion.com/CardFunder. Compassion also is reaching out to large groups, such as youth groups, businesses and service organizations, to host CardFunder drives where gift cards are physically collected and turned in to Compassion.

"With CardFunder, we are creating a new avenue for giving through a resource that some people have and are not using," said Jeanne Wilkinson, director of corporate relations at Compassion International. "There are more than 400 million children living in poverty around the world whose lives can be changed through our support. CardFunder makes it simple—give a gift card, change a life."
